Heavy Equipment Mechanic

To perform skilled and semi-skilled work involved in the mechanical servicing, maintenance and repair of the vehicles and equipment, heavy construction equipment and other equipment; to maintain simple records related to shop operations; and to perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Accountabilities:

1. Safety regulations and precautions pertaining to the servicing and repair of heavy equipment and fire/emergency response equipment.
2. Diagnoses and repairs computer controlled systems, electrical systems, brakes, steering, suspensions, transfer cases, transmission, hydraulic systems, heavy equipment.
3. Maintains accurate and complete work records.
4. Overhaul diesel-powered engines.
5. Safe and proper use of assigned equipment and tools.
6. Basic mathematics
7. Ensures tidiness and cleanliness of workshop facilities and all equipment for which his team is responsible

Education, Knowledge, skills and Experience

1. Minimum 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and repair of diesel-powered heavy and road construction equipment
2. Must be able to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, reading and writing, and operating office and shop equipment.
