SENIOR ELECTRICAL DESIGN ENGINEER

Responsible / reporting to the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department within a multi-disciplinary consulting design office. The role requires working independently or leading a team of design engineers and CAD operators in the design, drafting and writing material specification of electrical systems and services for a variety of buildings and infra-structure projects from concept stage through to final issuing of construction / contract documents. Responsibilities include checking of drawings and calculations for quality assurance, preparing feasibility reports, writing design reports and similar type of other reports. In-depth knowledge of electrical systems and services for a variety of building types such as high-rise corporate and residential, hospitality, commercial and retail, leisure and recreational, educational and healthcare facilities is essential The candidates shall have clear understanding of the inter-relationship and coordination requirements between the electrical design and the architectural and other engineering disciplines on complex projects. Candidates shall be capable to produce preliminary electrical load estimation of a project at concept stage and space requirements with dimensions for major electrical and telecom equipment such as MV switchgear, transformers, generators, MDBs, FCC, MTR, etc. Candidates shall be able to produce clear and detailed calculations for cable sizing, voltage drop, circuit breaker sizing, short circuit, load balancing, circuiting of normal and essential power, normal and emergency lighting illumination level. The candidates shall have good command on the following software related to electrical discipline: - At least one proprietary power distribution network calculation software from a renowned switchgear manufacturer such as Schneider, ABB, Siemens or similar. Knowledge of ETAB will be considered as an asset. - At least one proprietary standby generator sizing software from a renowned generator manufacturer such as Cummins, Kohler, Caterpillar or similar. - Internationally known Illumination level calculation software such as Dialux, Relux or similar. Familiarity with quality assurance / quality control procedures, ISO 9000 applicable to design activities is also important. The candidates shall be fully conversant with international standards and codes of practice for electrical engineering including British / IEC standards, NFPA and local codes such as Saudi Building Code (SBC) and Civil Defense requirements. Candidates shall have a high level of computer literacy and proficiency, particularly in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel, such that a simple spread sheet can be produced easily for special electrical calculations required at any stage of a project.
